Clay making senior debut in Japan

A Chilliwack native is among five Twisters Gymnastics (Abbotsford) athletes travelling to Japan this weekend.

Zachary Clay and Abbotsford’s Ken Ikeda will be competing Saturday and Sunday in the prestigious Toyota World Cup.

They’ll go toe to toe with elite athletes from around the world, including 2012 Olympic men’s champion, Kohei Uchimura.

For Clay, this competition marks his debut as a senior athlete. The Toyota World Cup has been in existence for 45 years.

The other Twisters making the trip across the Pacific are Jonathan Osers from Langley, Steven Chaplin from Mission, and Nicolas Garfias from Abbotsford.

They will watch the competition, train with world-class athletes and stay at the student residences of Chukyo University, the alma mater of one of the Twisters head coaches.
