PCSL men hunt down playoff spot
Chilliwack’s U-21 Pacific Coast Soccer League squad is playoff bound after a weekend win over West Van FC.
CFC dumped West Van FC 3-1 in their regular season finale, Saturday night at Exhibition Stadium, to finish fourth in the seven team circuit.
CFC’s final record was 5-4-3, which tied them in points with the third place team, West Van FC. But West Van FC finished third based on the first tie-breaker, goal differential (plus five versus plus four).
Connor MacMillan opened the scoring in Saturday night’s game, roofing a penalty shot at the 20 minute mark. Zenow Renearts doubled the Chilliwack lead with a well-placed free kick. Renearts scored the third Chilliwack goal off a pretty feed from MacMillan.
MacMillan’s goal was his ninth of the year, which tied him with Victoria United’s Nils Webber for the Reserve League scoring title.
His fifth and sixth goals of the season moved Renearts into the top five in league scoring.
The season-ending Challenge Cup tournament will be played Saturday and Sunday at Exhibition Stadium in Chilliwack.
l Chilliwack’s U-21 Pacific Coast Soccer League women had an extremely difficult weekend, dropping a pair of one-sided games on the road.
The team dropped a 10-0 final in Penticton on Saturday, with Kelsay Rufiange (four goals), Chrystal Schuder (three) and Jill Flockhart (three) doing the damage for the Pinnacles. Chilliwack lost 5-0 Sunday in Kelowna, with Courtney Hemmerling netting three for the home team.
As the host team, Chilliwack (3-6-5) will have a spot in this weekend’s Challenge Cup, taking place Saturday and Sunday at Townsend Park.
