Chilliwack's Clay a national champ
Chilliwack's Zachary Clay is a national champion.
The Sardis secondary school student travelled to Regina last week for the Canadian National Gymnastics Championships.
Clay competed in the junior division and claimed gold in two events, the pommels and vault. Clay added bronze on rings to cap off a dream performance.
Another Chilliwack native, Marquita Morison, joined Clay in Saskatchewan.
Morison competed in the national open division, placing sixth on the beam and ninth all-around. Her beam performance was the best of any B.C.-based competitor.
Both athletes represented Abbotsford-based Twisters Gymnastics.
— Chilliwack's Ella Palmer, also a Twisters gymnast, competed at the Garden City Invitational in Victoria.
Palmer joined nine Twisters on the women's competitive team. She competed in the level three argo division, taking bronze on the floor and gold on the vault, beam and all-around.
Palmer's team collectively collected 14 medals.
