Midget Cougars maul Mustangs

Chilliwack’s midget Mustangs ended a tough weekend on a high note, bombing the Mid-Island Mustangs 12-1 at Fairfield Park on Sunday. The locals dropped the opener of the double-header 5-2, but the bats came alive in the rematch.

Chilliwack put up six runs in the first inning and four more in the second.

Brad Fitzsimmons  started a game on the mound for the first time this year and kept the Mustangs guessing with strong pitch selection.

He went three-for-three at the plate to help offensively.

Chilliwack’s weekend started on Saturday with back to back road losses to the Vancouver Mounties.

Everything was looking good for a win in the opener, with the Cougars leading 10-6 going into the bottom of the seventh inning. But defensive errors helped the Mounties to score five in the bottom of the seventh for an 11-10 walk-off win.

Disheartened by the loss, the Cougars, struggled in the afternoon game and dropped a 7-2 decision.
