MP needs to do more to create Chilliwack safe consumption site

In the wake of recent tallies of drug users in Chilliwack and the surprise discovery of a carload of opiates found during a lucky traffic stop by RCMP, we still do not have an application registered for an injection site for Chilliwack.

In the wake of recent tallies of drug users in Chilliwack and the surprise discovery of a carload of opiates found during a lucky traffic stop by RCMP, we still do not have an application registered for an injection site for Chilliwack.

The reason for this is simply because we do not have the political will to make this application on the part of any level of government here.

Sadly people who are addicted are still shooting up in our parks alleys and streets.

We have an MP in Ottawa, Mark Strahl who has not advocated for a site in Chilliwack, but prefers to send out questionnaires on how serious the citizens feel about drugs use in our community.

We are breathlessly awaiting the expected revelations his survey will reveal while the danger to our community continues.

I can find no evidence of his involvement in Parliament in assisting Chilliwack on this issue. We should expect Mr. Strahl to be active in the solving of this problem. That is why we have a representative in Ottawa, isn’t it?

I have evidence that Mr. Strahl who has magically moved to the front of the opposition bench all the better to heckle the majority party and all the while receiving numerous admonitions to cease this behavior by the Speaker along with an additional admonition by the Speaker for laughing at a Minister of the Crown who divulged to the House that he had once made his living driving a taxi.

We have an election in 2019. Regardless of the candidates who will contest our riding, it is my hope along with many others that the electorate of our riding will elect a more qualified representative than the one currently holding the office.

Perhaps by that time others will have applied for a safe consumption site for Chilliwack because as sure as our MP is not helping us, the drug problem is not going away.
