Cameras would slow down traffic
It is becoming almost impossible to drive in Chilliwack now while obeying posted speed limits. The majority of drivers have proved that they do not respect speed limits and have no intention of doing so. If they cannot be trusted to obey existing limits and tailgate those of us who do, then there is no other way but to do it for them. I propose that Chilliwack and other municipalities adopt the systems already in place on the M25 Motorway in England and the Toll roads in France. For example, when driving on Evans Road, a camera takes a picture of your car licence plate recording the time. Further down Evans, another camera records you leaving the area. If you exceed the posted limit, then you will have arrived at the second camera too soon, and a speeding ticket will be mailed to the owner of the vehicle. I propose three of these tickets will give you a five-year suspension and two more a 10-year suspension.It’s as simple as that. When driving down Evans from the Knight Road T-intersection south to the tracks at 50 KPH, it only takes two minutes. Why speed to save a few seconds and inconvenience everybody else, and break the law? It is not worth it. They say the camera does not lie. Let’s install a few around town as they will surely pay for themselves in no time flat.
