William Maurice Mackay

February 6, 2007

1921-2007

With his loving family surrounding him, William Maurice MacKay peacefully passed away in Salmon Arm on January 21, 2007.

Maurice is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy; sons Douglas, Hugh, Clayton and Murray and their families.

Maurice was born in Vancouver on Dec. 28, 1921 and grew up in Grand Forks and Nelson.

He joined the Canadian Navy in 1940 and served for four years as AB and Bandsman. Maurice was an accomplished trumpet player who enjoyed many years in the Kootenay’s big band scene. In Cranbrook, his young family grew as his business W.M. MacKay Insurance Adjusters thrived.

The family has been left with fond memories of water and snow skiing and wonderful summers at the cabin on Lake Windermere. After enjoying their motorhome for four years traveling around North America, Dorothy and Maurice lived 14 years in Sardis B.C. before moving to Salmon Arm.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, #201, 635 Victoria Street, Kamloops, BC, V2C 2B3, are appreciated.

The family will hold a Dixieland Wake this summer in place of a memorial service as Maurice requested.
