Walter (Bud) McKAY

July 17, 2017

Walter Campbell McKay, or Bud, as he was known to all, was born November 6, 1930. He spent his early years in Gleichen, AB. He is predeceased by his brothers, Frank and Brian, and his sister, Louise. Bud lived his life in the service of others. Bud spent two tours of duty on the HMCS Cayuga during the Korean War. In the early 60’s, he became a firefighter, and eventually a fire inspector, amassing a career lasting 30 years. Bud spent time as an Alderman for the City of Chilliwack in 1973-75. He lived life on his own terms. He loved a good joke (or a bad one!), smooth peanut butter and a good road trip anywhere! He loved to create-- painting, pottery, carpentry. Bud loved to learn something new. Dixieland Jazz, Curling and Dancing were some of his favourite things in life. He was a fisherman, a hunter, and in his later years, he became the camp cook. The aroma of his home made cinnamon buns wafting through the wilderness will be missed! He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Corrine, and his daughters, Marcy, and Julie (Dean), and his son, Bud. His grandchildren, great grandchildren and all of his extended family will miss him greatly. Bud was always up for a challenge and an adventure. He went on his latest adventure July 17, 2017. Happy Trails, Bud! We wish to thank Dr. P Basson, Mickey Gillis, as well as, the nursing staff and volunteers at Cascade Hospice for all their care and support. A Celebration of Life will be held July 27 at Chilliwack Curling Club, 9291 Corbould Street, Chilliwack, BC Canada V2P 4A6 from 2:00 - 4:00 PM. In lieu of cards, and flowers, please donate to Cascade Hospice, Chilliwack.
