July 26, 2003Wallis Leroy Maguire, aged 75, passed away on July 26, 2003 after a long and arduous battle with cancer.He is survived by his wife, Anna, and her family; his children: Graham (Karla), Susan (Albert), and Bradley (Brenda); his grandchildren: Alex, Steven, Amara, Brian, and Jocelyn.He is also survived by his brother, James (Mae), and sisters: Shirley (Harald) Gunderson, Wilma (Pat) Alair and half-sister, Clara Stevenson.Wally joined they RCMP in 1948. After retiring from the force in 1971, he started a new career with the BC Telephone Company. His community service spanned more than half a century, and his tireless efforts touched thousands.A memorial service will be held on Friday, Aug. 8, 2003 at 10:30 am at the Agricultural Hall in Agassiz, BC. Rev. Steven Laug officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to either the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the British Columbia Lions Foundation for Children with Disabilities.The family would also like to take this opportunity to thank Shirley Dunlevy and the other support workers for their compassionate care during Wally's final months.
