Mar. 21, 1924 – Mar. 16, 2010

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas (Tom) Reynold Barritt on Tuesday, March 16th at Cascade Hospice at the age of 85.

Tom (or Rennie as he was known to his family) was born in McMasterville, Quebec on March 21st, 1924 to Tom and Annie Barritt. During his early years, Tom moved with his parents between England and a variety of towns in Quebec. At the age of 18 he entered the Royal Air Force where he was trained as an electrician which became his life’s work. He served with the RAF from 1942 until 1947 and was discharged in Vancouver. In 1948 he met and married Catherine Ray. They raised a family after settling in Chilliwack in 1953 where he worked for BC Hydro until his retirement in 1984. Tom was a Legion member for 51 years.

He will be dearly missed by his wife of 61 years, Catherine, his son Wayne (Sue) of Calgary, his daughter Diane Fujino (Norman) of Revelstoke, his five grandchildren Jennifer and Stephanie Barritt, Laura, Cheryl and Adam Fujino. He will also be missed by many friends and relatives.

He was predeceased by his father Tom, his mother Annie and his brother, Harold.

The family would like to thank everyone in the community who contributed to Tom’s care during the last few months.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 on Monday, March 22nd at the Chilliwack United Church followed by a tea in the church hall. In lieu of flowers donations could be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in Tom’s memory.
