Thomas was born in Garvin, Scotland, September 22, 1933. He was in the British Army with the 1st BTN Royal Scots where he served in Egypt as peace keeper from 1954 to 1956. He immigrated to Canada in 1957. This is where he met his wife Randi. They married in Penticton in 1960 and made Vancouver their home for the next 20 years.
