Stanley NERHEIM

Stanley Nerheim died quietly in Chilliwack, B.C. on Nov. 21, 2003 at the age of 89. At the time of his death, he was survived by his wife, Eva; son, Andrew Nerheim; daughters: Joanna (David) Hutton of Tsawwassen, Stefanie (Michael) Paine of Victoria, and Mary Ann Pouttu of Chilliwack.

Stanley will be missed by grandsons: Brook Hewlett, Christopher and Jay Corey-Hutton, Joshua and Kyle Nerheim; and granddaughters, Sarah Elizabeth Pouttu and Serena Nerheim and daughter-in-law, Manuela Nerheim.

Stanley was born in Bialystok, Poland. In his early teens, he emigrated to Canada with his family and settled in Thunder Bay, ON. As a young man, he traveled west to Vancouver where he worked for Boeing Aircraft company during the WWII. It was there that the met, and later married, his wife Eva Isobel Sandstrom.

After the war, Stanley and his friend Harold Alton joined together and founded Alton and Nerheim Masonry Contractors Ltd. The company thrived and was active in construction all over the Lower Mainland and up the coast.

After his retirement in the mid-1960’s, Stanley resumed his interest in business and construction by developing a number of properties. Other than a brief time in Merritt, B.C., Stanley and Eva lived in the Lower Mainland, and since the early 1970’s, in the Chilliwack area. Stanley was a charter member of the probis Club of Chilliwack, an active member of Carmen United Church and supported the Chilliwack Arts Council.

A Memorial Service for Stanley Nerheim and Eva Nerheim will be held on Monday, Dec. 1, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at Carmen United Church, 7258 Vedder Road, Sardis, B.C.
