Signe Johnson passed away on September 4th, 2009 at the Cascade Lodge in Chilliwack, BC at the age of 92.

Signe was predeceased by her husband Oliver in 1998. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Arlene Taylor of Chilliwack, three grandchildren Shane (Debbie) of Welland, Ont., Kim (Stanly) and Lincoln (Diana) of Edmonton, Alta., and four great-grandchildren Damon, Jasmine, Matthew, and Troy.

Signe was born in Kipling, Saskatchewan on May 9th 1917. She taught elementary school for over forty years. Her teaching career began in one room school houses in Saskatchewan starting in 1936. After a move to Whitehorse, Yukon, in 1952 with her husband Oliver, she went on to become one of the founders of the Yukon Teachers Association. Apart from being an independent, liberated woman before there really was such a thing, Signe was also an accomplished curler and an amateur painter of some talent. But first and foremost, she was the best wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother any family could have asked for. She will be sorely missed.

There will be a viewing for family and friends on Wednesday, September 9th 2009 at 7:00 p.m. and a Celebration of Life followed by a tea on Thursday, September 10th 2009 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Henderson’s Funeral Home, 45901 Victoria Avenue, Chilliwack.
