Mom passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Friday April 6, 2007 at the age of 84yrs. She was born June 21, 1922 in Ottawa, Ontario. She met her beloved future husband, John Reid (Jack) at the age of 16 years and they married October 13, 1945. Ruth and Jack spent many years traveling with the Armed Forces, retiring in Chilliwack in 1969. They spent many years with family and friends at their trailer at Paradise Estates. Mom loved her years with Lady Lions, some spent as President, as well as time in the Players Guild, the Music Festival and the Hospital Auxiliary. She loved doing crosswords, sewing and dancing and her favourite card game was 31!!!!
Mom was predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Jack O`Flaherty and is survived by 5 children: Reid & Anita O`Flaherty, Diane & Gary Cavers, Nancy & Ken Janicki, Cheryl Hall and Phil Hall, and Kevin & Sherri O`Flaherty. Mom was blessed to have 12 grandchildren: Patrick, Keely, Carolyn, David, Ron, Kim, Kelli, Shayla, Dustin, Amber, Nikki and Spence and doubly blessed with 14 great grandchildren.
A memorial tea will be held for family and friends at Henderson`s Funeral Home on Thursday, April 12, 2007 at 2:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Chilliwack Lady Lions or a charity of your choice, will be greatly appreciated. A special thanks to Dr. Dodds, all the fantastic nursing staff on Ward 3 and the Sub Acute 5 at the Chilliwack General Hospital and the wonderful staff at The Cascades. You were amazing and Mom was very lovingly cared for by all.
