Roy Lloyd HARRIS

April 2, 2004

Roy Harris passed away peacefully on Friday, April 2, 2004 in his 93rd year. He had been a resident at Eden Care Home since July, 2002. Roy was born in Vancouver, B.C. to Andrew and Grace Harris on February 17, 1912.

Roy married Margaret Young in 1938 and they lived and raised their children in Vancouver. Subsequently, Roy’s work took the family to Honeymoon Bay on Vancouver Island, Port Mellon (where he worked in the Pulp Mill for 17 years), and to Surrey, where he and Margaret operated a Care Home for Handicapped Adults until their retirement in the mid-70’s.

Besides his family, Roy’s principal interests were in solving crossword puzzles (a penchant his three children inherited!), and travelling (he and Margaret enjoyed three cruises). Travelling, for Roy and Margaret, was not limited to cruise ships and airplane journeys, but in “going places” in the car and seeing the local sights. Their journeys also took them to Ontario, Manitoba, and to New Zealand (Wellington and Auckland) in the South Pacific. Of all his journeys, his last one was the most significant — to Heaven, safe in the arms of Jesus.

Roy was predeceased by his parents, and his sister (Thelma). He is survived by his loving wife (of over 66 years), Margaret, daughters Diane (John), Donna (Robert), and son David (Janice). Also surviving are grandchildren Yvonne (Mark), Veronica (Gary), Ian (Claire), Kelly (Ryan), Danielle (Michael), Catherine (Luc), and eight great-grandchildren.

Grateful thanks are extended to Dr. Quentin Smith, a faithful friend and advisor, and to the Eden Care Home Staff for all their kindnesses. In lieu of flowers donations to The Salvation Army, 46420 Brooks Ave., Chilliwack, B.C. would be welcomed.

A Memorial Service was conducted by Major D. Law on Thursday, April 8, 2004 at 11 am at Henderson’s Funeral Home, Chilliwack, B.C.
