Robert Alexander Knapp

November 11, 1928 - August 27, 2017

Our beloved Bob passed away peacefully in Cascade Hospice at the age of 88, after a battle with cancer. He was born in Halifax, NS, to Edward Knapp and Margaret Cooze. He was the last surviving member of that family. He served in the Canadian Army Engineers for 25 years, as an Engineer Accountant, with postings in Fort Churchill and Whitehorse, several stations in the rest of Canada, and in Germany. He was qualified as a Dominion Marksman Expert. In 1951 he married Joyce MacPherson in the Engineer Chapel at Vedder Crossing. After retirement, he studied Watchmaking and was a Certified Gemologist, then went into business with his father-in-law in Sackville, NB. After his second retirement Joyce and Bob spent 2 years in London, UK. where Bob made numerous trips in UK and on the continent by bicycle. In 1995 they moved back to Chilliwack where they still had old friends from the 1950’s. It was a happy time there, filled with travel, photography, outdoor adventures, and riding his beloved motorcycle. Bob is survived by his Joyce and their 3 children, daughter Jennifer, Auburn, NS, sons John (Donna) Oakville, ON, and William, Picton ON, and his cherished granddaughter, Candra Knapp. A Memorial service and tea will be held at Henderson’s Funeral Home on Thursday, September 7, at 1 p.m., and afterward everyone is invited to Branch 4 Legion for story telling. No flowers please, but a donation to Chilliwack Supportive Housing would be gratefully received.
