(nee Enns)

Feb. 15, 1938 – Nov. 20, 2010

Sadly we announce the passing of Rita Elvera Boake on November 20, 2010 at the Chilliwack Hospice following a courageous battle with cancer.

Rita is survived by Ercyl, her husband of 50 years, brothers Ted (Muriel) Enns and Hardy (Bernice) Enns, Aunt Helen Siemans, step-daughter Lynda Boake, Step-granddaughter Becky (Doug) Reid. Also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws. Predeceased by her Mother (2009) and Father (1978) Marie and George Enns.

A Chilliwack girl all of her life, Rita was born and raised in the family home on South Sumas Road in Greendale. She attended Greendale Elementary, Chilliwack Jr., and graduated from Chilliwack Senior in 1956. Following graduation she worked 22 years in the office at Bowman Sawmill. This is where she met Ercyl, and they were married in 1960. A job change took her to Westform Metals until retirement in 1988.

Rita was a tireless volunteer who freely contributed her time over the years. She was a Soroptimist member since 1973 making many friends around the world from many walks of life. She was also a board member for Chilliwack Community Services and the Chamber of Commerce for 10 years. A member of Club 28 from 1967-2004 when the club was disbanded. Member of PEO Sisterhood Chapter B.C. since 1992 and a volunteer with the Academy of Music, not to mention many other organizations.

It was with great honor and privilege to Rita to be selected as Chilliwack Woman of the Year in 1993.

Rita was a wonderful, fun loving person who was able to brighten a room with her presence. Ercyl and Rita had a great life together. Rita always enjoyed family get-togethers, was interested in how everyone was doing and if a little one was in the gathering would soon have them in her arms. They enjoyed time spent with friends, RVing, morning walks and coffee visits. A fabulous party was held this summer celebrating their 50th anniversary. She will be greatly missed by all who were a part of her life. We love you Rita.

A celebration of life will be held at the Masonic Temple, 45905 Hocking Ave., Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 1-3 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in Rita’s name.
