Raymond William McDANIEL

Raymond William McDaniel was born July 27, 1925 in Abbotsford, BC and passed away April 8, 2006 in Chilliwack.Raymond was the grandson of the Tretheway pioneer family of Chilliwack. He lived in Wilmer in his early childhood and moved back to Chilliwack in 1936.He attended Chilliwack High School with the famous Wilf Graham, principal.Raymond worked at Eddie’s Nursery until he enlisted in the Canadian Army during the latter part of the Second World War. He returned to Eddie’s Nursery after the war. He married Patzie Evans, December 12, 1945, a granddaughter of the Evans pioneer family of Chilliwack.The next five years were spent in partnership with Percy Evans and Walter Moore running a dairy farm at Vedder Canal where the Royalwood Golf Course is now located.Ray joined the B.C. Forest Service in 1953 and lived in various communities throughout B.C. as a Forest Ranger until his retirement as 2CO of the Green Timbers Forestry Training School in 1980.After retirement, Ray and Pat moved back to Chilliwack where they have resided for the last 26 years on their hobby farm.Ray was predeceased by his infant daughter, Rebecca, his parents, Anna and Lee McDaniel and his brother, Les McDaniel,Ray is survived by his loving wife, Patzie, of 60 years; his children Lee (Donna) McDaniel of Nanaimo, Bonnie (Rick) Whyte of Chilliwack, Grant (Kim) McDaniel of Chilliwack and Michael McDaniel of Sooke; granchildren Jeff and Kelly Whyte, Sherri-Anne & Patrick McDaniel, and Lucas McDaniel; Great-grandchildren Jolene Carne-Whyte, Nicholas and Jacob Whyte and Jordan McDaniel. He is also survived by four sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, April 20 at 2:00 p.m. at the Best Western Inn, Chilliwack, exit 116 off Hwy. #1.
