Peter passed away peacefully in his sleep March 5 at the age of 86. He was born February 8, 1926 in The Hague in the Netherlands.

In 1952 he moved to Canada where he married Angela Kouwenhoven in 1953 and they settled in the Chilliwack area raising 3 children.

Peter was a member of the 22nd Field Squadron Militia. He also worked for the Department of Highways as a surveyor. He attended UBC where he obtained his teaching degree and taught at several elementary and high schools in the Chilliwack district before retiring in 1986. Peter was a member of the Chilliwack Pipe Band, a volunteer with the Red Cross and a disaster coordinator.

He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club of Chilliwack and had maintained and administered the Super ­Reader and Read To Me ­programs for many years.

Peter enjoyed gardening, music, reading, stained glass and spending time with his family. He was also a devoted member of Eckankar.

Peter was predeceased by his parents Cornelius and Jaapje van Staalduinen, his brother Matt van Staalduinen and daughter-in-law Marlien Sheridan. He is survived and will be greatly missed by his loving family; sons William and Robert; daughter Marianna (Don) Neuls; grandchildren Sarah, Robbie (Sarah), Jason; great-grandchildren Shane, Athena, Jake, Aliya; his brothers Bill, Jake and Bert van Staalduinen; extended families Drew (Michelle) Eggeson, Tom Eggeson and many nieces and nephews.

We would like to thank Dr. Deon Smit for his care in looking after Dad and a very special thank you to the staff at Valley Haven Care Facility for all their kind care and attention.

A memorial open house will be held Saturday, March 17 between 2 and 4 p.m. at the Salvation Army Church, 46420 Brooks Ave., Chilliwack. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to The Salvation Army.
