Peter D. Wiebe passed away peacefully on September 8, 2004 at the age of 75.
Peter is survived by his wife of 53 years, Katherine; sons Bruce (Joyce), and Brian; daughters Sandra (Mark) Fisher, Linda (Bill) McKay, Cynthia (Tom) Rogers; grandchildren Greg, Stephanie, Amanda, Michael, Jeffrey, Raelene, Marlee, Caleb, Benjamin, Jonathon.
Peter was born in Macklin, Sask. on August 26, 1929 to Dietrich and Anna Wiebe. He was the first son in the family of four children. In 1933, the family moved to Hague, Sask. were Peter attended Passiondale Rural School and helped his dad grain farm. In 1944, the family moved to a dairy farm in Greendale, BC. While there, Peter helped his father with the milking, did custom farm work for many of the farmers in the area, and worked at the local sawmills.
As well, he attended Bethel Bible College. In 1950 he went to work for Knowlton Logging Company at Ruby Creek, BC. Peter then met and married Katherine Klassen on November 2, 1951.
In the summer of 1952, Peter began working for Canada Packers (York Farms) as a truck driver and over the years was promoted to different positions from which he retired in 1994 at the age of 65 years. Along with working at Canada Packers, in the Fall of 1952, Peter and Kay bought their own dairy farm on Sumas Prairie Rd. where they farmed and raised their children until 1976, when they sold the farm and moved to Sardis, BC.
There Peter enjoyed riding his bike, stopping at garage sales, visiting with friends, and taking his many grandchildren along to feed the ducks, geese and squirrels at Sardis Park.
Peter will be remembered for his physical strength, strong work ethic, dedication to detail, dependability, trustworthiness and sharp memory. Peter enjoyed traveling, the outdoors may it be camping or hunting with family, and time with his grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at 2 pm, Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004 at Henderson’s Funeral Home Chapel.
