Paul Roland GYGAX

April 10, 2005

Paul Roland Gygax, born March 2, 1943, passed away suddenly in Chilliwack on April 10, 2005.

Paul is survived by his wife Ellen of 39 years; “daughter “ Jennifer (Perry) Sharp; “grandchildren” Melissa and Tucker; sister Florence Casey of Sechelt; mother-in-law Jo Kettle; and numerous in-laws. Paul is also survived by his treasured nieces and nephews in Canada and relatives in Switzerland.

Predeceased by parents Walter and Anne and sister Yvonne Hidber.

Born in New Westminster and youngest of three children, Paul grew up on a dairy farm outside of Hope, B.C. He was much loved by his family and cherished his childhood memories.

Paul was a meat cutter for Save-On-Foods (913) in Chilliwack and had worked for the Overwaitea Food Group for 40 years. He learned his trade working for Ellen’s dad at a meat market in Hope, B.C. in the late 1960’s. He moved to North Bay, Ont. with Ellen and her family in 1965 and they were married in 1966. At that time they returned to B.C. and after living in various communities in the province they settled in Chilliwack.

Paul planned his life with much yet to come; building a new home in retirement, lawns to mow, fences to paint, and part time work as a meat cutter. His exuberance and optimistic outlook will be missed by those of us who looked to him for encouragement and strength

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Chilliwack on Friday, Apr. 15, 2005 at 1:30 pm with Father Gary Gordon Celebrant. Following graveside service, friends are invited to a reception at St. Mary’s Hall.

If family and friends so desire, donations may be made to Vancouver Children’s Hospital.
