(1938 - 2009)
After a long battle with a brain tumour, our mum passed away peacefully in the lovely village of Kempsey, near Worcester UK on May 22, 2009 of this year.
Predeceased by her dear brother ‘Len’, she is survived by her son and his wife Jeff and Debbie; daughter, Jacquie (UK); grandchildren: Collin and Hailey (Jesse), Nathan and Nadine (UK) and the latest arrival to the family, great-granddaughter Reianna; as well as her sister Gladys and Maurice (UK) Ron, Marion and Stan, Andrew, Shauna, Kaeleigh,Teagyne and Seth, and many more family members here and in the UK. And, many friends of the four-legged variety.
Our mum loved her family, animals, and music. Born in London October 17, 1938, mum was evacuated to Lancashire during the war, at the age of six, and lost her mum a few years later. She felt this loss deeply and had an empathy for others who suffered similar hardships, or injustices of life, whether they were people or animals. In 1971 the family of four emigrated to BC, eventually ending up in the Chilliwack area.
Her love of animals allowed her to make a living caring for dogs and later breeding and showing them. She and our aunt Marion started “Borderline Kennels” back in the 70’s, up in Columbia Valley. From there they went on to breeding and showing dogs, and many will remember her as “The Classy Clipper” when she had her dog grooming business in Chilliwack.
Music was always a part of her life. From an early age we remember the radio or the record player being on. She loved to sing, and loved all kinds of music, from the Beatles, Burt Bacharch, to Supertramp, David Bowie, Billy Joel and Elton John whose concerts she saw on both sides of the Atlantic. She was part of choirs and chorale ensembles at the Academy of Music when she was here in Chilliwack. She was also a member of the choir at her local church St Mark’s for a time in Worcester.
In 2001 mum moved back to England. After working so hard for so long, she was finally able to retire. She went to Worcester, to be near Jacquie and grandchildren Nadine and Nathan. We are so happy that she was able to spend time with them during their tender years, and will be deeply missed by them. She began a part-time degree program at the University in Worcester in history and with her granddaughter Nadine researched her own family geneology.
The Bible speaks of death as the ‘enemy’, and while this enemy has won this round, our hearts are comforted by the way that Christ Jesus spoke of his friend Lazarus, who had died, saying that Lazarus was ‘sleeping’. After a long and hard battle our mum is now asleep, her memory as clear as day in the mind of Almighty God. So now we patiently wait till Jesus, as ‘the resurrection’ will bring our dear mum back to life, and God willing, we will all be there to greet her. We love you dearly mum!
