Nov. 30, 1942 – Feb. 15, 2010

Patricia Speer passed away on Feb. 15th, 2010 surrounded by her family.

Pat was born in Holyhead, Wales, and lived in Ramsgate, Kent and London, England before emigrating to Canada in 1963.

Working in Canada, she became the first female Administrative Assistant to the Dean of Education at Simon Fraser University, eventually leaving the position she had worked so hard to attain in order to stay home and raise her family, to whom she was utterly devoted.

Once her children were grown, Pat trained in classical piano through the Royal Conservatory of Music. She worked as a piano teacher and enjoyed with her students the progress they all made.

Pat loved attending local music concerts, doing needlework, travelling extensively and keeping up with friends on the Internet. She was a volunteer at the Chilliwack United Church Thrift store, thoroughly enjoying her time spent with the other ‘Wednesday Girls’, and was highly regarded by all for the creative flair she brought to the store’s displays.

Beloved wife and mother, Pat leaves behind her devoted husband of 42 years Henry and three dear children Rachel, Sharon and Michael. Pat was especially close with her treasured brother Fred who could always make her laugh, sister-in-law Pauline, her four nephews who will dearly miss their ‘Aunty Pat’, and cousin and lifelong best friend Shirley. Pat also had a great many friends near and far who were a continuous source of support and comfort to her.

The Speer family would like to extend their most extreme gratitude to Kristen, Len, Donna, Jacqueline, Katrina, Amanda, Cindy and all the other nurses, student nurses and support workers on the 3rd floor of CGH, as well as to Dr. Ronald Bull for his extraordinary level of care.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

A service to celebrate Pat’s life will be held at the Chilliwack United Church on Monday, February 22nd at 2 pm. All are welcome.
