Norman Robert RICHARD

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Norman Robert Richards of Calgary, AB, beloved husband of Ruth for fifty-three years, on Wednesday, November 30, 2005.

Norm was born and grew up in Chilliwack. In 1943, he joined the Air Force and served working along the Alaska Highway. After WWII, he went to UBC and received his Bachelor in Commerce. Norm articled at McVicker and Dinsley in Vancouver, and then joined BC Marine after receiving his C.A. designation in 1955. In 1963, he moved to Hooker Chemicals in Vancouver, which was later bought out by Occidental Petroleum. With his family, Norm moved to Calgary, AB in 1973, and served as Treasurer and Senior Financial Officer for CanOxy. When he retired, he enjoyed his golf and walks. He was a proud member of the FEI, and Willow Park Golf and Country Club. This past October, Norm was proud to receive his fifty-year pin from the Institute of Chartered Accountants. He will be missed for his sense of humour and love of family.

Besides leaving and being remembered by his loving wife Ruth, Norm was the proud father of Norma (Brian Hawrys) and Bill (Cynthia Asquin); and grandfather of Michael, Stephen and Kathryn Hawrys, and Alex and Callum Richards. He was predeceased by his brothers, Gordon and Harold; and his sister Winn. He will also be missed by numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Norm felt that all his family was very important.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, December 6, 2005, at 10:30 a.m.
