It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Nick Wawryk, husband, father and grandfather on Sunday, May 4, 2008 at the Heritage Village Care Home in Chilliwack.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Cora, and their two children, Carol (Alex) Balakshin, of Abbotsford and Gerry (Jean) of Chilliwack and grandchildren Elvira, Sarah, Jeff, Jody and Sheila (Cory).

He is also survived by his sister Anne (Yakimchuk) and brothers Ernie, Jim, and Mike, and many nieces, nephews and his sister-in-law, Esther.

Predeceased by his brothers Frank and Steve and sister Mary. Nick was born on November 18, 1917 in Wakaw, Saskatchewan as the second son to the late Walter and Molly Wawryk. He was raised and educated in Sokal and Wakaw.

Nick had great pride in serving overseas with Canadian Armed Forces during World War II. Upon returning to Canada he married Cora (Fettes) in 1946. He was a member of Cooke’s Presbyterian Church where he was an ordained and inducted as an elder in February 25, 1968.

From 1946 to his retirement in 1981, Nick was a driver and salesman for Dairyland.

Nick and Cora loved to travel and enjoyed trips around the world.

He enjoyed maintaining his home and garden, especially the tomatoes which he shared with family and friends.

Family was of utmost importance to Nick and he cherished visiting his family in Saskatchewan and the Lower Mainland.

Nick’s celebration of life will be held at the Cooke’s Presbyterian Church on Monday, May 12, 2008 at 1:00 p.m.
