The family of Muriel Joan Engle is sad to have to say goodbye to their beloved mother and grandmother on October 7, 2009. Joan passed quietly in her sleep at Cascade Hospice at age 76, following a short but courageous battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her husband Walt in 1999.

Joan is survived by her children, Terri (Dan) and Bob (Debbie). She leaves behind six special grandchildren; Keely, Jessica, and Drew Muscatell and Brendan, Kara and Kaylee Engle. She is also survived by her three loving sisters, Kaye, Jean and Bev.

Joan was born November 17, 1932 in Vulcan, Alberta. After graduating from nursing school at the Calgary General Hospital, she ventured off with her classmates to begin their careers at Chilliwack General Hospital.

Not long after, Joan met and fell in love with a handsome young man, Walt, who soon became her husband. Her life as a wife, nurse and mother was one in which she took the utmost pride. She was an avid curler as well as a supportive skating and hockey mom. Later, Joan and Walt enjoyed travelling, fishing and spending time in Arizona. Most importantly however, was the time they spent with their grandchildren. They often took one or more of them on a holiday adventure or just out for a piece of pie.

Throughout the past ten years, Joan remained active; brisk daily walks, weekly bridge games with friends, special trips with her sisters, and being there to support her grandchildren. Joan was a loyal member of the Chilliwack community for the past 55 and will be sadly missed by those who knew her.

Please join her family in a Celebration of Life to be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of Woodlawn Mt. Cheam Funeral Home, 45865 Hocking Ave., Chilliwack. If any so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations to the BC Cancer Foundation, 13750- 96th Ave., Surrey, BC. V3V 1Z2 would be welcomed.
