November 24, 1917 – August 6, 2012

Mervin Herbert “Bert” Street, age 94, passed away peacefully on Monday August 6, 2012 at Glenwood Care Centre in Agassiz. He was born November 24, 1917 in Chilliwack where he lived his entire life. Bert grew up in Atchelitz where he worked the family farm. He met and married Eileen Edmondson in 1954 and in 1956, they moved to the Edmondson family farm in Sardis. He lived there with Eileen until a year ago when his declining health required his placement in Glenwood Care Centre. Bert worked as Grounds Foreman for the Chilliwack School District for 25 years. He retired in 1982 and enjoyed his retirement to the fullest. He was happiest in his vegetable garden leaning on his hoe chatting with a neighbour and waiting for the next weed that might dare to pop up. If you couldn’t find him in his garden then you could always find him in his workshop, whistling away building a bird house or one of his many wood creations. Predeceased by daughter, Sally in 1967. Bert is survived by Eileen, his wife of 58 years; sister, Babe; daughters: Norma (Lou), Debbie and Dee (Ferdie); grandchildren: Lisa, Heather, Shiloh, Jordan and Caleb and his adopted family Bob, Shelagh, Kimberly (Tyler) and Zachary. Bert is also survived by his extended family, Lorne, Della, Ross, Brad, Ken and their families. Bert’s family would like to thank the staff at Glenwood Centre for their wonderful, kind caring of Bert and to Dr. Markey and Dr. MacIntosh for their care and support. There will be no Service at Bert’s request. Donations to the Alzheimer’s Society may be made in his honour. Bert loved to laugh and have fun. His generous, kind, gentle, quiet manner made him loved by all who knew him.
