(nee Paquette Smillie)

February 2, 1935 – November 14, 2008

It is with extreme sadness that the family of Merrilou Paquette Smillie Dubois announce her passing in Maple Ridge.

Merrilou spent her younger years raising her six daughters while serving as an active contributor to the communities she lived in.

She was a Sault Star Reporter for St Joseph Island Community News and a reporter for the Progress Paper in Chilliwack. She also managed her husband’s medical office. She was tireless in her efforts to role model community involvement for her family, emphasizing the importance of service and charity. Her later years were spent with the rekindled love of her life in Maple Ridge.

She will be sadly missed by her 1st and 3rd husband John Smillie, siblings Shirley, Lynn, Jeff and Lee as well as daughters June (Jim) Kaminski, Phyliss (Frank) Manfredi, Susan (Steve) Stoneson, Christine Smillie, and Catherine (Dave) Reich and grandchildren Che, James, Ariana, Bianca, Alex, Jason, Josh, Arianè (Sandy), Lyrissa, Shane (Tracy), Shalayah (Cory), Perry, James, LeVar, Chrisstar, Sharon, Megan, and Douglas and great grandchildren Natalia, Damian, Willow and babe-to-be Jacob.

She is predeceased by her parents Stanley & Alice and brother, Terry Paquette, second husband, Dr. P.F. Dubois, daughter and son in law Janet and Perry Johnston, her infant son, grandson Tobias Smillie and great granddaughter Serenity Kamps.

She struggled to survive all of her life right from the beginning when she was born a preemie. She finally got to rest from her life struggle today. Many of her loved ones were there with her to comfort her and to witness her departure. It was a sad time for everyone to bid fond farewell to such a gracious and loving lady.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, November 21 from 6-8 at the Falls Golf Course.
