(Sept. 19, 1940 - Aug. 18, 2009)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Merle, suddenly and unexpectedly at her home in Chilliwack, at the age of 68. Born in Lucky Lake Saskatchewan to Charlie and Ethel Welch, Merle was predeceased by her beloved husband of 42 years, Otto, in 2004.

She is survived by: her son Kurt, daughter Gitte, grandsons Evan and Cole, all of Chilliwack; brother Bernard (Morna) Welch of Drayton Valley AB; sisters Lois (Merv) Osman of Saskatoon SK, and Shirley Yelich of Kenaston SK; and many nieces and nephews.

Merle attended teachers college in Saskatchewan, and became a teacher at a young age. She taught in a country school, in Rosetown, where there were seven grades in one room. She lived in an old ‘teacherage’ while doing this.

Merle married her beloved Otto in 1962 in Saskatoon, SK after a whirlwind courtship. They left the wedding and flew directly to Otto’s native Denmark for a lengthy honeymoon. They were inseparable and loved each other; and their family was raised in Chilliwack BC, where they lived the rest of their lives.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:30 PM, Saturday, August 29, 2009, in the Chapel of Woodlawn Mt. Cheam Funeral Home, 45865 Hocking Avenue, Chilliwack, BC
