Maurice Edgar (Tony) Mazerolle passed away on Nov. 10, 2007 at St. Joseph’s General Hospital, Comox, at the age of 70, after a battle with cancer.

Tony was born in Campbellton, NB on Sept. 26, 1937.

He is predeceased by his parents Leo and Alma (Heppell) Mazerolle and nephews Jacques Mazerolle and Brian Bone.

He leaves behind his loving wife Helen, (of 46 years), two sons, Kevin (Kayleen) of Langley, BC and Dan (Lisa) of Chilliwack; and daughters Kathi (Ken) Sharpe (Baynes Lake, BC), and Debbie Black of Greenwood, BC.

He will also be missed by his cherished grandchildren, brothers: Roland (Lise) Claire of New Brunswick, Charlie (Pat) of Red Deer, AB; and sisters: Janine (Ernest) Diotte of Balmoral, NB, and Leola (Gord) Taylor of Timmins, ON; and numerous nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles.

At the early age of 16, Tony left New Brunswick and joined the Royal Canadian Engineers as a Sapper Apprentice and served a two-year program of academic, military and trades training at Camp Chilliwack.

During his 25-year military career he served 13 months with the UN in the Middle East (1957-58), and six months in Alert, NWT. His postings took him and his family from Victoria to Chilliwack, Alsask, Sask and Masset, BC.

After retirement from the CF as a Master Warrant Officer in 1979, Tony had a second career with BC Telephone, retiring in 1996 as a building maintenance supervisor on Vancouver Island.

Since retirement, Tony and Helen enjoyed travelling with their RV, spending winters in Mexico and the rest of the year at their home in Courtenay, enjoying family and friends. One of his favourite activities was hiking up at Forbidden Plateau and spending time on the beaches. He also loved gardening and riding his John Deere tractor.

Tony was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 160, Comox, BC, a volunteer at Thrifty Foods Sendial, a member of FSNA and the Telephone Pioneers.

A special thanks to the health care professionals in Chilliwack, Victoria and Comox. He will be missed by many friends and family. Rest in peace.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 15, 2007 at the Comox Valley Funeral Home, 1101 Ryan Road, Courtenay, BC.
