It is with great sadness that we announce the passing away out of this life of our dear husband, father, grand and great-grandfather, Matthew Vanderspek on March 26, 2006.
Dad was born August 9, 1916 in Niewerkerk a/d Ijsel, the Netherlands.
He and his wife with four daughters immigrated to Chilliwack, B.C. on March 24, 1953.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Adrianna (nee Reijm), children, Lydia (Martin) Maljaars, Joann (Archie) Maljaars, Jeannie (Ben) Kanis, Annie (Adam) Slingerland, Ernie (Mary) Vanderspek, Nellie (Hank) Van Dyk and Peter Vanderspek, 39 grandchildren, 62 great grandchildren.
Left to mourn his passing in the Netherlands, are one brother, Arie, 3 sisters; Mien Bac, Ger Schipper, Ploon Buitenhuis; sisters-in-law, Mien Vanderspek, Anna Reijm, Anna Reijm; brothers-in-law; Piet Reijm and Arend Reijm (Bep).
He was predeceased by two granddaughters, Diane Royal (nee Slingerland) and Laura Maljaars; brothers, Jan, Ies and Tienus; and sisters, Annie van der Kooij and Marie Slingerland.
Opportunity for condolences and viewing will be given on March 29, 2006 for friends from 8:00 to 9:00 pm at Henderson’s Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held in the Bethel Netherlands Reformed Congregation Sanctuary at 8920 Broadway, Chilliwack on Thursday, March 30, 2006 at 10:00 am, with Pastor P van Ruitenburg officiating.
Should family and friends so desire, donations in Dad’s memory may be made to Timothy Christian School in care of Henderson’s Funeral Home.
