Mary Stewart (The Buzz) CROY/HALL

February 19, 2009

Born October 18, 1918 in Scotland to William and Emily Stewart, Mum grew up in Chase BC graduating school in Vancouver.

Wife of Chilliwack pioneer family, member of Atchelitz Women’s Institute, and Historical Society.

A renaissance woman she trod the path of excellence in whatever she did. She was funny, formidable, and smart. Her enjoyment of people and her innate ability to socialize and connect made all who knew her enjoy her company and want to be around her. Due to her voracious non fiction reading she had a remarkable knowledge of places, politics and people.

Mum believed in us, our dreams, and aspirations and taught us there was nothing we could not do. She instilled in us her view that education was paramount to achieving independence and self sufficiency.

We were amazed and grateful to this loving, brilliant, artistic woman who put her dreams aside and dedicated her life to loving and raising us. She was the heart of our family and cared for and embraced all her grandchildren and great grandchildren and was equally proud of each of them.

Mum will be forever missed by her children, Maralind, Marcena, Marcia (Lex Vanwely), Bill (Francesca), David (Bev), James and Charles (Marjorie) and her brother Donald and family and friends in Scotland, Orkney and BC.

She was predeceased by loving husbands William L.Croy and Lewis Hall.

Parents cannot live forever no matter how much we want them to. They are gifts we may hold and enjoy for a brief time, appreciating and cherishing them.

Services will take place at Henderson’s Funeral Home in Chilliwack on Friday, February 27, 2009 at 1pm.
