Marion STEELE (nee Danyleyko)

Marion Steele passed away at Chilliwack General Hospital on February 23, 2005 at the age of 99 years. She was born in Rossburn, Manitoba on November 5, 1905.

Marion was of Presbyterian Ukrainian descent. Her parents immigrated to Manitoba in the late 1800’s. In 1933 Marion married Jack who was a WW1 veteran, in Timmins, Ontario where they became active members in McKay Presbyterian Church. There she owned and operated a hair styling shop and was a skilled hairdresser.

In 1962 Jack and Marion moved to Chilliwack and joined Cooke’s Presbyterian Church in 1964. Marion became an Elder in 1980 and served the church in many ways. She was a hospital visitor for 14 years and greeted at the Church door until 4 years ago and she assisted the Guild with bazaars and rummages sales.

For 10 years Marion delivered Meals-on-Wheels and for 25-30 years she was an active member of the Chilliwack Hospital Service League and worked in the gift shop. She loved petit point, her balcony garden, cooking especially baking whole grain biscuits which she brought to her friend’s homes. She was a wonderful person and inspiration to all who knew her.

She is survived by her son-in-law John Wilson, granddaughter Susan (Eric) Stensland and great grandson Jack, all of California.

Marion was predeceased by her daughter Maria and another daughter in her infancy.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2005 at 11:00 am from the Cooke’s Presbyterian Church with Rev. Herb Hilder officiating.
