(nee Falconer)

(1922 – 2008)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Marie, on June 9, 2008, at Chilliwack General Hospital.

Marion was born in Vancouver on October 9, 1922, Marie was predeceased by her bother, Victor.

She is survived by her daughters, Joanna Dunham (Arnie) and June Genner (Noel); granddaughters: Erica and Stephanie Dunham; brother Ian Falconer; sister Pauline Elliott; as well as nieces: Susie Churko, Cathie Johnson, Lynn Falconer; and nephews: Harvey and Dennis Falconer.

Marie was born and raised in Vancouver. As a teenager she worked for Teletone as “the voice of Wurlitzer” and, as a young woman during the war, for Boeing.

In 1960 she joined the Vancouver Police Department as one of the first civilians (and women) to work in the emergency call center.

A strong, independent, and loving woman, Marie worked hard and raised her two children on her own.

We were happy for mom when she retired to her cottage at Cultus Lake and was able to enjoy her garden and the company of her friends, neighbours, and little dog.

We are grateful to her Cultus friends whose care and support helped mom live independently in her own home.

At Marie’s request there will be no funeral. A remembrance gathering for family and friends will be held in Marie’s honour at 2 p.m., June 18, 2008, at Pala Lago Restaurant, Plaza in the Park, Sunnyside Blvd., Cultus Lake.

No flowers by request.
