Maria OLIFIRENKO

Maria Olifirenko late of Crystal Ridge Manor and formerly of #40 — 7455 Heron St., Chilliwack, passed away on October 9, 2004 in the Bradley Center at the age of 89 years. She was born on April 2, 1915 in Oscar Lake, Sask. to William and Zina Bouzovetsky.

Maria went to a country school in Oscar Lake and married John Litvenenko in Perdue, Sask. John was a farmer working hard and heavy in the hungry 30’s. In 1947 they sold the farm and moved to Penticton where she worked in the fruit packing house for 10 years and John built houses. In 1956 they moved to Kelowna to run a small grocery store. After selling the store they went back to building duplexes where Maria helped her husband by doing carpentry work.

Her husband passed away in 1962. In 1968 she married Peter Olifirenko in Kelowna. Together they did a lot of fishing and traveling to different countries including the USA. In 1986 they moved to Sardis, B.C. and she has lived in Chilliwack ever since.

Maria is survived by her only daughter Alvina (Leslie) Barnard, grandchildren Linda (Paul) Shields, Marty Lawrance, Barbara (Jess) Adair, Sandra (Dwayne) Ladoucer, five great-grandsons and one great- granddaughter; sisters, Ann Coutts of N.B.; Sonia (Eli) Lubchenko of Sask; Myrtle (Peter) Twarynski of Sask; brothers, John (Gladys) Busby of B.C.; Mike (Hazel) Bouzovetsky of Sask; nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, husband John in 1962, 2nd husband Peter in 1996 and brother Albert in 1997.

Maria’s family wishes to give a very heartfelt thank you to all the staff and the owners of Crystal Ridge for taking the time to visit mother so often while she was in the hospital and also to the staff at Bradley Center for their thoughtful and caring ways.

Celebration of her life will be held at the Chapel of Henderson’s on October 23, 2004 at 2 pm.
