Margaret Mary hAY

January 6, 2007

June 15, 1920—January 6, 2007

It is with deep sadness that the family of Margaret Mary Hay announce the passing of their dear mom, grandma and nana. Marg passed away January 6, 2007 at the Chilliwack General Hospital with family by her side.

Marg was born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, the second of five children.

She had many wonderful stories about growing up on the prairies.

Marg married Ken Hay, the love of her life, on January 7, 1946. Marg and Ken worked together on farms in Saskatchewan until 1952. They came west and settled in Sardis. In 1953, their daughter, Karen, was born.

Marg spent twenty years working side-by-side with Ken as custodians at Sardis Elementary. Upon their retirement they became “snowbirds”, spending many winters traveling to the South in their motor home.

Throughout the years, Marg enjoyed fishing and camping trips. She was an avid reader and liked to knit, crochet and needlepoint. Marg belonged to Club 28 and the Good Neighbour Club.

Marg’s greatest joy in recent years were the frequent visits from her great-grandchildren as they “kept her young”.

Marg was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Ken; infant daughter, Shirley; brother, Kenny; sister, Jeanette Dams and sister-in-law, Fran Starrs.

Marg is survived by her daughter, Karen Hay; brother, Bud (Doreen) Starrs; sister, Maureen Seymour; brother-in-law, Vic Dams; granddaughters, Amber (Jeff) Holliday, Stacy Nelmes and Tanya (Gordon) Maahs; and great-grandchildren, Clayton and Jelisse Holliday, Lincoln, Blaine and Fifth “on the way” (who was greatly anticipated by Marg) Maahs.

A memorial open house will be held at 5286 Westwood Dr. (Amber’s and Jeff’s home) on Sunday, January 28, 2007 between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Should family and friends so desire, donations in her memory may be made to the B.C. Children’s Hospital Foundation or a charity of choice.
