Margaret Joan Barker passed away in the Chilliwack General Hospital on April 13, 2004 at the age of 101 years.
She was born April 8, 1903 at Ford House, Little Massingham, Norfolk, England, daughter of Richard and Annie Mary Knights and immigrated to Alberta, April 1909. She was raised on a ranch at Millarville, Alta., trained at the Holy Cross Hospital, Calgary and graduated in 1925 with an R.N. degree.
She married John at the Christ Church in Millarville on July 29, 1926. She had twin daughters born July 28, 1928, Dorean and Daphne, who died July 29, 1928.
John and Margaret lived in Calgary and Banff and moved to Chilliwack, B.C. in 1939. They farmed on Gibson Road.
Margaret was predeceased by her husband John in 1964.
She worked at the Chilliwack General Hospital and as matron of Valley Haven. She was a member of OES, working for cancer clinic since 1948, Red Cross Creations with a service medal, a member of St. Peter’s Anglican Church and later of St. Thomas Anglican Church in Chilliwack.
The service will be held at St. Thomas Anglican Church on April 16, 2004 at 11 am with Rev. Charles Lenz officiating. Interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery in Chilliwack.
