Margaret Ellen MURPHY

November 20, 2007

(nee WALTON)

(Dec. 26, 1925 - Nov.20, 2007)

It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of our beloved mother. Mum was born in Toronto, Ontario to William Smith Walton, QC, and Helen Lydia Anderson.

She spent her childhood with her much loved sisters, Helen, Mary and Elizabeth.

Mum graduated from Bishop Strachan School in Toronto; and, with the advent of the Second World War, entered the University of Toronto School of Nursing.

Mum married William Ross Murphy and together they raised eight children and lived in six cities: Toronto, Calgary, Pointe Claire, PQ, Port Credit ON, North Vancouver and Chilliwack. During this time she also completed her BA with Honours in French, and obtained her teaching certificate.

Mum leaves behind Bill/Dad, her loving husband of 62 years; their eight children: Bill (Sheril), Ellen (Dennis), Susan (David), Neil (Diane), Rosemary (Duncan), Kathy, Pam (Daniel), Chris (Wendy); 22 grandchildren: Melissa, Alyssa, Cory, Erika, Margaret, David, Catherine, Michelle, Kyle, Breanna, Brendan, Alison, Cameron, Eleanor, Christine, Debbie, Nicholas, Graham, Ryan, Margaret, Stephanie, Anissa; three great-grandchildren: Ethan, Cooper, Campbell; and her sisters, Helen de Wever, Mary Hill and Elizabeth Kidnew.

Throughout her life, mum spent her summers at Red Bay on the Bruce Peninsula — it was her special place.

Mum died as she lived: with courage, dignity and compassion. She is our inspiration.

Family and friends are invited to a celebration of her life at their home in Chilliwack, Sunday, Dec. 2, 2007 from 1:00 - 4:00 pm.
