Major Dennis S. SINGER

Dennis Stephen Singer late of 185-3400 Wilson St. Penticton, B.C. passed away November 7, 2005 at Moog & Friends Hospice House at the age of 76.

He was born September 20, 1929 in Winnipeg, M.B. and joined the Royal Canadian Engineers in 1948 as a sapper. He was promoted through the ranks as an NCO and served a the Engineer School, 1 Radiation Detection Unit, North West Highway System, 1 Staff in Lethbridge and the Engineer School in England. On return to Canada, he was commissioned and served in Edmonton as a Captain with 1 Staff. He was posted to the Engineer School in Chilliwack where he was the Training Coordinator. In 1973 he became a Mason in Mt. Zion Lodge. He moved to Ottawa in the rank of Major and was on the staff of the Director of Engineers. He finished his service at Shilo, M.B. as Provincial Warning Officer and was volunteered as the Mayor of Shilo. He worked as a realtor in Chilliwack for 4 years. During this time he became the Master of Mt. Zion Lodge and also joined Nooksack Lodge and also joined Nooksack Lodge in Nooksack W.A., U.S.A. In 1993 he moved to Penticton and became a Square Dancer at the age of 68. He is survived by his wife, Betty, his daughter Joan Panteluck of St. Paul and his daughter, Ann McWhinnie of Summerland, B.C. He has 4 grandchildren, Tevor, Sherry, Joanna and David and numerous nieces and nephews. Sadly predeceased by his parents, brothers, Doug and Barb; sister, Helen. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2005 at 11:00am from First Memorial/Penticton Funeral Chapel.
