January 28, 2005

Lorna Elizabeth Hooyenga passed away peacefully as the sun rose on January 28, 2005 at age 49 years. Lorna was born on May 17, 1955 in Melville, Saskatchewan.

Lorna is survived by her loving husband of 31 years, Johnny, their children, Nicole (Marcel) Maillet, and Michael (Haley) Hooyenga; grand daughter Milan Hooyenga; brother Lloyd Hoedel, Abbotsford and sister, Nancy (Colin) Copland, Aldergrove.

She was predeceased by her parents John and Marie Hoedel and her step-father Walter Sjostrom.

Lorna delighted in many simple things, sewing, crafting, quilting, gardening, traveling, entertaining family and friends and the sunrises and sunsets on her mountains. Many adjectives could be used to describe Lorna; brave, courageous, loving generous and gifted. Her family and friends will remember her unique and contagious laughter, her generosity and care for others, her willingness to work and her cheerful disposition that was not suppressed even by her illness.

The family would especially like to thank all the doctors, nurses and care aides in Chilliwack General’s Emergency and Palliative Care Unit for all their care and support while she was in hospital. A very special thank you to Dr. Richmond.

Memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2005 at 11:00 am at Chilliwack Alliance Church, 8700 Young Rd Chilliwack, Pastor John Gray officiating. If family and friends so desire, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
