March 7, 1917-March 24, 2007

The world experienced the loss of a very special woman on March 24, 2007 with the passing of Marjorie Compeau at the Waverly Care Facility in Chilliwack, B.C. She was born in North Vancouver, B.C. on March 7, 1917, and raised, educated and married in the Rosedale/Chilliwack area. Marjorie moved to Osoyoos, B.C. with her husband, Howard, and family in 1948 where she helped in the family butcher shop business and in 1956, the first Super Valu. She worked at other businesses over the years, but Marjorie was first and foremost an Osoyoos community supporter and dedicated volunteer with a list of organizations too long to list here. She twice received the Chamber of Commerce Good Citizen Award and also the Soroptimists’ Woman of Distinction Award. As well as her numerous volunteer activities, she found time for power walking, hiking, biking and cross country skiing. She swam at her lakeside home each year until her late 80’s. Marj was a remarkable lady!
