Leslie Walter BOND

July 25, 2003

May the road rise to meet you, and may the wind be at your back.

This Irish blessing we bestow on Leslie Walter Bond, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who made his final journey Friday, July 25, 2003.

Les was born in Belfast, Ireland on December 5, 1922 and came to Canada at the age of three. He grew up in Toronto, Ont., and joined the army in 1942 during the Second World War. He was a member of the Northshore Regiment which was the first Canadian division to land on Juno Beach on D Day. He was wounded south of Capique Airport in France. He returned to Canada and re-enlisted in the regular army.

While stationed in Toronto, he met a young telephone operator name Nellie Patterson. They married in 1948 and over the next 12 years produced three children, Lynda, David and Bruce.

Les retired to Chilliwack in 1966 after 25 years in regular service. They moved to Lacombe, Alta. in 1990.

He will be missed by Nellie, Lynda and Earl, David and Peggy, Bruce and Carol; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

No more battles to fight. Peace is finally his.
