Laura Blanche stinton

Laura Blanche Stinton (nee Chesley) passed away peacefully with her family at her side in Chilliwack General Hospital on July 28, 2006. Laura was born June 4, 1917 in New Germany, Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia. The youngest child of Clementine and Horton Chesley. She was proud to have graduated from the Maritime Business College and to have worked as Secretary to the Managing Editor of the Halifax Herald prior to her marriage to Burt Stinton in 1948. When Laura married Burt, she also married the Royal Canadian Navy and for the next 22 years she moved frequently over much of eastern Canada living in Moncton, NB; Charlottetown, PEI; HMCS Cornwallis, Ottawa; Halifax N.S. (on several occasions) as well as spending two years in Belfast, Northern Ireland. When Burt retired in 1970, she moved with him back to his hometown of Winnipeg, MB. In 1999, she moved to Chilliwack. Laura loved to travel and she enjoyed many trips by car across Canada and most of the US. When at home her favorite pastimes were completing crossword and other word puzzles and reading mystery novels. She is survived by her only child, Barbara (Dan) Henry of Chilliwack; her older brother Gordon (Leonore) Chesley of Amherst, N.S. and two nieces Pamela Coleman of Bridgetown, NS and Margaret (Steven) Langley of Toronto. She was predeceased by her husband Burt and her brother Sheldon. Barb and Dan would particularly like to thank the staff and residents of Chilliwack Lifestyles as well as all the Home Care Aids and the nurses and staff of Chilliwack General Hospital who supported and asisted Laura and her family throughout the last months of her life. A graveside service will be held Thursday Aug. 3rd at 10 AM, Vedder View Gardens Cemetery 44675 Watson Rd. Chilliwack, B.C. Padre Fred Tassinari officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests that a donation in memory of Laura be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
