Kenneth WISHART

Kenneth Wilfred Wishart passed away on January 3, 2006 in Chilliwack at the age of 83 years. He was born in Ochre River, Manitoba on December 6, 1922.

He attended school in Ochre River, Manitoba and joined the Canadian Army at the age of 18 years and served overseas during the Second World War. He was part of the liberation of Holland. Ken enlisted in 1949 in the Canadian Special Forces and served in Korea from 1950 to 1952. In October 1951 he received the Military Medal of Honour for bravery.

In April 1953 he married Velma Cram. His service in the Armed Forces took the couple across Canada. He retired from the Airborne Regiment in the early ‘70s and moved his family to Chilliwack. At the same time he began a new career with the Penitentiary System as an IPSO, retiring in the late ‘80s.

Ken is survived by his loving wife Velma of 52 years, daughters; Debbie (Will) Schulz, Dianne (Jon) Mitchell and his grandsons Ryan and Blair Schulz, Brent and Craig Mitchell.

His interests included; gardening, camping, fishing, furniture restoration, reading, cheating at cards, winning at dominos, spending time with his grandchildren and of course watching hockey.

Services will be held on Monday, January 9, 2006 at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of Henderson’s. In lieu of flowers, donations would be greatly appreciated to the British Columbia Children’s Hospital Foundation, Room B321 - 4480 Oak Street, Vancouver, B.C., V6H 3V4 in Ken’s name.
