Kenneth Terrence ALENDAL

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ken Alendal on April 20, 2006 in Chilliwack at the age of 72 years. He was born in Rex, Saskatchewan on October 21, 1933 and was one of six children.

Ken will be greatly missed by his wife, Joan, of 49 years, son Jim (Anne), daughter Kelly and grandchildren Kayleigh and Jarritt his brothers Omer (Shirley) and Dave and sisters Wanetta Nelms, Marge (Jim) Thorne and Iris (Bob) Larratt as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by both his parents, Eddy and Mae Alendal, sister-in-law Beryle Alendal and brother-in-law Ray Nelms.

Ken moved to Chilliwack in 1948 where he has resided ever since. He worked several different jobs ranging from logger, driver, car salesman to owning a business called Dog ‘n Suds from 1965 to 1984 with partner Lloyd Johnston running seven restaurants between B.C. and Saskatchewan. He was a full time fire fighter from 1978 till 1993 and also a volunteer firefighter for 37 years. He retired in 1993 and has been actively involved in his son Jim’s chicken farm where he has been both a fixture and an inspiration.

Ken enjoyed fishing and hunting and was a member of the Chilliwack Fish and Game Club for many years. He was also a member of the Atchelitz Farmer’s Institute for a number of years. Ken’s love of his family and the enjoyment he received from his children and his grandchildren were truly the corner stone of his life.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully request that donations be made to Chilliwack General Hospital, Palliative Care Unit in Ken’s name. A Celebration of Ken’s life will be held at the Best Western, 43971 Industrial Way, Chilliwack on Friday, April 28, 2006 from 1:30 until 4:00 pm
