Julia V. Wittenberg passed away peacefully, on December 7, 2008, at The Waverly. She was the third daughter born to Charles and Julianna Szabo of Kipling, SK on Oct. 2, 1908. She attended school there, grew up on the family farm along with three sisters and three brothers. On Dec. 27, 1929, she married Jack Wittenberg who taught school in Kipling and later in Pfife Lake SK. During the war years they made their home in Vancouver, BC.

Once the war ended they settled in the small community of Yarrow, BC, where Jack owned a jewlery and watch repair shop. Julia worked as the community librarian for the Fraser Valley Regional Library from 1947 until retiring in 1974.

She is survived by brother Charlie, of Vancouver BC, numerous loving nieces and nephews.

She was an active member of the Cookes Presbyterian Church. Her faith in God remained with her throughout her entire 100 years of life.

She was predeceased by her husband Jack; parents: Charles and Julianna; sisters: Esther Groves, Anne Czinkota, and Emma Currence; brothers: John and Steve Sabo; and sister-in-law Noreen Sabo.

The families of Julia would like to say thank you to the staff at the Waverly Care Facility and to Dr. Bartel for their wonderful care you showed our Aunt while residing there, but especially in her last days.

Memorial Service will be held for Julia at Henderson’s Funeral Home, Chilliwack on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008 at 11 a.m. Luncheon to follow. Interment will follow at Valley View Garden Cemetery.
