Our Lord was pleased to take our father from us. John Jacob Vander Waal passed away peacefully on December 7, 2012 at Cascade Lodge at the age of 73 years. Born in the Netherlands, John immigrated to New Jersey USA, married Pamela and later moved to Iowa to work as a Dairy Farmer. In 1977 they moved to Canada with their children and operated Rosedale Greenhouses until retirement. Shortly after retirement, John developed Alzheimer’s and moved to the Cascade Lodge. The family wishes to thank Dr. Hirst and especially the dedicated care givers at Cascade Lodge. Also, thanks to all who supported and visited Dad and Mom during his illness.
John is lovingly remembered by his wife Pamela; children, Stan & Wilma Vander Waal, Virginia & Henk Mulder, Tonia & Bert Van Hierden, Sharon & Sam Klaassen, Julia & Blaine Meissner, John & Cathy Vander Waal, Mary & John Hofstede, Gary & Sue Vander Waal, Henk & Julia Vander Waal, and Louise DeVries; 34 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents and his brother, Aart.
Public Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 12 from 7:00 to 8:30 pm at Bethel Netherlands Reformed Congregation, 8920 Broadway St. Chilliwack. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, December 13 at Bethel Netherlands Reformed Congregation; Rev. P. van Ruitenburg officiating.
