John Harold (Jack) Bonnell passed away the morning of April 12, 2003, in the Extended Care Unit at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital. He left peacefully in the company of his loving family.
Jack was born in Edmonton, Alta. on December 28, 1917. At age 22, he joined the Canadian Armed Forces, with whom he served for five years.
In 1949, he was married to Mary Kruk. They moved to Red Deer, Alta., where they raised two children, Ken and Marie. After retiring from Alberta Government Telephones, Jack moved with Mary to Chilliwack.
Jack was devout in his love of nature and spent much time outdoors with his family. He will be remembered as an extremely capable person who was always willing to help others. He was also a great story teller with a good sense of humour.
He loved and was proud of his two grandchildren, Mariken and Kimberly. Jack will also be missed by his sisters, Nina, Claire, and Shirley.
The family thanks the staff at ECU 2 who looked after him with care and compassion.
Reverend Les Bonnell and members of the family said goodbye to Jack in a short gathering at the hospital.
