It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, at home, February 24/09 after a lengthy battle with cancer.

He was predeceased by daughter Cynthia in 1978, two brothers Robert & Barry, and one sister Margaret.

John is survived by his wife Deanna of 50 years, one son John K. (Shelly), two grandchildren Jennifer & Brian, eight brothers, Bill (Barbara), Douglas (Laura), Albert (Phyllis), Glenn (Irene), Kenneth, Paul (Sharon), Michael (Barbara), Richard (Jeane), four sisters, Phyllis, Joanne (Bob), Judy & Gayle. Also survived by his sister-in-law Elaine (Lorne) Freeden of Dundurn, Sask., sister-in-law Mary Gow and brother-in-law David Godkin.

John was born April 1st, 1932 in Kingston, Ontario, the oldest son of John & Frances Gow in a family of 16 children. In 1948 at 16 years of age he joined the Canadian Army (RCE) and retired from the forces as a MWO after 26 years of service. He was then employed by the Cdn. Government, first with the Dept. of Transport Canada and transferred to the Dept. of Public Works Canada, retiring in 1987 after 39 years of Government Service. He and Deanna full-time R.V.’d for a year travelling extensively throughout Canada and the US. They settled in Kelowna and relocated to Chilliwack in 2005. John was an avid reader and history buff, and he and Deanna enjoyed their many winters of snowbird life in Southern California and Arizona.

Many thanks to Dr. P. Basson and staff, and the Home Care Nurses for their dedication, and caring attention to John.

There is no service, by request. In lieu of flowers, if desired, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
