John Edward Hagerman, age 66, passed away peacefully at Chilliwack General Hospital on Friday, September 25, 2009 after a very short but courageous struggle with cancer.

John was born August 30, 1943 in Kingston, Ontario.

John is predeceased by his parents Edward & Hazel Hagerman, wife Sharon, sister Mildred Boulton (Bill) and most recently his brother Tom. He is survived by his partner Helen, two sons, Rod (Lynn), Joey (Bev), grandchildren Nicholas, Kayley, and Warren, three brothers, Paul (Lorraine) David (Denise), Warren (Mari), sister-in-law Annette, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

John joined the Royal Canadian Army as an apprentice (boy soldier) at the age of 16 and served 32 years in the military as an Engineer at C.F.B. Chilliwack, C.F.B. Petawawa, and C.F.B. Lahr in Germany. He retired with the rank of Sergeant Major from Base Operations, C.F.B. Chilliwack in 1992. John’s passion was being out in the field building roads and bridges.

John enjoyed playing darts, golfing, and camping in the Okanagan every summer. He always made time to drive over in “Grandpa’s blue truck” and visit his grandkids.

Service will be held on Friday, October 2, 2009 at 11:00 am at Vedder View Gardens Cemetery, Watson Road, Chilliwack. A reception will follow at RCL Br.280, Vedder Rd.

In lieu of flowers, if so desired, donations in his memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
